Notice of Increase in Top Wharfage, Storage and Side Wharfage Charges Effective April 1, 2004

The charges for Top Wharfage, Storage and Side Wharfage (listed in the Seaway Handbook under “Wharfage and Storage Charges”) have been revised. The new charges listed below take effect on April 1, 2004.

Top Wharfage (Price per ton)

a) bulk cargo $ 0.3675
b) general cargo $ 0.8400
c) containerized cargo $ 0.3675

Storage Charge

a) first 48 hours no charge
b) each period of 7 days or part thereof after the first 48 hours $ 0.4935 per square metre of area occupied for storage

Side Wharfage

a) first 48 hours no charge
b) each period of 24 hours or part thereof after the first 48 hours $ 0.0945 per gross registered ton

These charges were last increased in 1993, and benchmarking carried out during the period of September to November 2003 identified that Seaway charges for wharfage and storage are below market rates at ports neighbouring our facilities. The 5% increase in charges will serve to bring the Seaway’s rates in line with prevailing market rates.

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation is giving notice of this increase well in advance of the implementation date, in order to grant stakeholders the opportunity to make adjustments to their service fee schedules.
