Seaway Radio Message #11 - 2009 Closing
Ice is present in the areas of the South Shore and Wiley-Dondero canals, further information may be obtained from the respective Traffic Control Centre.
The removal of navigation aids in the Montreal-Lake Ontario section is in progress; more detailed information may be obtained from the respective Traffic Control Centre.
Mariners are advised that the implementation of the power to length ratio restrictions and minimum draft requirements, scheduled for December 12, are postponed until further notice.
It is important for mariners to note that any vessel which now calls in upbound at CIP2 will be designated a wintering vessel in accordance with all the terms outlined in Seaway Notice No. 8 of 2009.
Mariners are advised that the Montreal-Lake Ontario and Welland Canal drafts outlined in Seaway Notice 1 of 2009 remain in effect until the end of the navigation season.
Water temperature at St. Lambert on December 21, is 0.2 degrees Celsius. Last year’s temperature was 0.2 degrees Celsius. The ten year average is 1.1 degrees Celsius.
At midnight December 20, the number of ocean vessels above St. Lambert was 10 as compared to 11 in 2008. Above Port Weller the number was 7 as compared to 7 in 2008.
The Prescott/Ogdensburg ice boom opening has been reduced to 600m and is indicated by quick flashing green and red buoys.
All closing procedures outlined in Seaway Notice No. 8 of 2009 remain in effect.
