Seaway Radio Message #2 - 2009 Opening
This is the final Radio Message for the opening of the 2009 navigation season.
The Seaway is now open to navigation.
The maximum permissible draft for both the Montreal-Lake Ontario Section and the Welland Canal is 80.8 dm (26’6”).
MONTREAL-LAKE ONTARIO SECTION
Ice conditions are minimal in the Montreal-Lake Ontario Section of the Seaway. Further information is available through the local Traffic Control Centres.
Installation of aids to navigation is in progress. Further information concerning this is available from the appropriate traffic control centre.
Navigation may be restricted until the commissioning of lighted aids has been completed. Mariners are warned to exercise extreme caution in the use of winter markers as the position of the markers may have been affected by ice. Further information concerning this is available from the appropriate traffic control centre.
The removal of the Galop and Prescott-Ogdensburg ice booms A and G is complete.
WELLAND CANAL
The Welland Canal is open water with broken ice present in Port Colborne Harbour. Mariners are cautioned that, at present, thick to thin ice conditions exist in the Eastern end of Lake Erie. Ice breaker assistance is available.
