Seaway Radio Message #1 - 2008 Opening
This is the first Radio Message for the opening of the 2008 navigation season.
The Montreal-Lake Ontario section will open to navigation on March 22nd at 0800 hours.
The Welland Canal will open to navigation March 20th at 0800 hours.
Details on the maximum permissible drafts for both the Montreal-Lake Ontario Section and the Welland Canal are available in Seaway Notice no.1 of 2008.
MONTREAL-LAKE ONTARIO SECTION
Ice conditions in the Montreal-Lake Ontario Section of the Seaway are available through the local Traffic Control Centres.
WELLAND CANAL
The Welland Canal is open water with broken ice present in Port Colborne Harbour and above lock 7. Mariners are cautioned that, at present, thick to thin ice conditions exist in the southern half of Lake Erie.
