Tolls Schedule
In accordance with The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation's (SLSMC's) Business Plan, a redesigned St. Lawrence Seaway Schedule of Tolls is introduced in 2008. The structure main feature is a three year toll freeze.
In the new 2008 tolls structure, lockage fees are restructured to benefit all vessels. A unique charge per GRT for all transits will benefit small and medium size vessels. A maximum charge per vessel will benefit large sized vessels.
The Corporation is introducing a New Business Incentive Program, intended for carriers, by which a 20% discount will be allowed on cargo tolls for three seasons for any commodity/origin/destination combinations approved by the Corporation as being a new business. Exceptionally, the Corporation has already approved all containerized cargo movements under the New Business Incentive for seasons 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
The Corporation is also introducing a Volume Rebate Incentive Program. This program, intended for shippers/receivers, will give a 10% reduction on the cargo tolls for the incremental volume increase over the highest volume achieved by a shipper/receiver over the previous 5 years.
The definition of domestic cargo has been modified to include all movements within the system. From now on, in addition to movements between Canadian points or between United States points, any cargo movements between Canadian or American points inside the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway system will also be define as domestic cargo, therefore being subject to the bulk rates.
